SUGAR LAND, Texas (press release) – The following is a press release from Harmony Public Schools)
At Harmony Public Schools, we care deeply about the safety of our students, team members, and communities as new cases of COVID-19 continue to increase across Texas.
Monday August 9, Harmony Public Schools informed families that it will offer a Texas Education Agency-approved virtual learning program on a limited basis for students with documented medical need. As part of the program, students can receive up to 20 days of synchronous virtual education per school year if they are unable to attend classes on campus due to a positive diagnosis of COVID-19; have been in close contact with someone positive for COVID-19; or are a member of a high-risk medical group, as documented by a licensed physician. If a student needs more than 20 days, they can request an additional 20-day waiver from the student health unit on their campus.
Harmony believes that this virtual learning opportunity provides parents with a valuable option to protect their child from the risk of COVID-19, while being on the right track academically and connected to their classmates and the interests of the school.
Harmony also announced that she will continue to notify parents if a child or team member tests positive for COVID-19 in their classroom. We will also conduct contact tracing to determine the extent of any possible COVID-19 presence on our campuses.
We believe these steps are important steps to help keep our students safe and to continue a culture of collaboration with our Harmony families in the fight against COVID-19.
We will continue to explore all options available to protect our students, team members, and communities from COVID-19.
No further comments will be issued at this time.
