Grant to Advance Virtual Reality Equipment and Training at Albright College


Albright College Game and simulation development received a Create with VR grant from Unity and Meta Immersive Learning. Meta partners with Unity to help educational institutions and nonprofits bring their visions of immersive and collaborative learning experiences to technology underserved learners.

“The grant awarded 15 virtual reality (VR) headsets for use in our Game and Simulation Development major, as well as a comprehensive program to train faculty members in VR development,” Mike explained. D’Errico, Ph.D. D’Errico is chairman of Albright’s music department, as well as director of music technology and Composition and Assistant Professor of Music and computing.

The new Meta Quest 2 VR headsets will be used to deliver immersive education on a range of topics and to train students to become the creators of the growing and well-paying virtual reality industry. Additionally, Albright faculty will have access to cutting-edge virtual reality professional development opportunities.

The demand for workers with VR skills is growing rapidly in gaming, education, healthcare, automotive, architecture, engineering, and more. A PwC report on the economic impact of the industry estimates that, by 2030, 23 million jobs will be enhanced worldwide through augmented and virtual reality. Salaries in the industry are also very promising, averaging $158,000 per year, according to Hired’s 2022 report on the State of Software Engineers. The Create with VR grant will equip Albright faculty with new technologies and skills to launch students on this exciting career path.
