Costa Rica has been recognized around the world as a sustainable destination in constant innovation and which is gradually walking the path of universal accessibility tourism , thinking about the enjoyment of all tourists on an equal footing . Precisely, within the framework of the accomplishment of Sustainable Development Goals of the World Tourism Organization, the Costa Rican Accessible Tourism Network was born, an association based on the pillars of information, verification and education.
To strengthen this last pillar, the said network has generated a strategic alliance with the Argentinian institute Noun Eventos y Capacitación Executive, the Distance State University (UNED) and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) to develop the First national certified and international e-learning program with exclusive content focused on accessible tourism and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

Accessible registration E-learning on tourism The program is officially open and will start on September 13. According to the organizers, it will consist of three modules of three months each, in a virtual classroom that will be open 24 hours a day and all week. The content will be jointly developed by professional members of the network, ambassadors and allies.
Education as a fundamental pillar
“One of our fundamental pillars is education and to achieve this alliance to create a comprehensive training program in which the entire tourism industry, including teachers, students, as well as tourism professionals guild can learn from scratch, with all the basics to define what It is accessible tourism, how to treat them, customer services, infrastructure development, among others and now, thanks to a technological platform innovation to strengthen these efforts nationally and internationally, it is a dream come true for us, ‘explained Stephanie Sheehy, Executive Director of the Costa Rica Accessible Tourism Network.
For his part, Alberto López, ICT General Manager recalled that “Costa Rica has bet over the past three decades on a tourism development model that focuses on three fundamental pillars: inclusion, sustainability and innovation. Thinking of the axis of inclusion, all the efforts made by the Accessible Tourism Network of Costa Rica focused on creating an environment conducive to allow any tourist to enjoy the beauties of the country, will always be supported by the TIC. We are surprised by this innovative project focused on inclusion and on how accessible tourism should develop and serve appropriately and responsibly, allowing us to continue to grow in a relevant axis of our model ”.
100% accessible innovation and training
From the aforementioned alliances, the technological support of the platform of the Argentinian expert organization in E-Learning, Noun Eventos and Executive Training has been fundamental. They currently have headquarters in nine countries such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Chile, El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica, as well as 122 locations in Argentina, as well as the Global reach of virtuality for over 20 years of content generation and training.
“Our institute has seen Costa Rica’s accessible tourism network as an ideal ally to strengthen our efforts for years. Accessibility must be thought of for all and we detect the importance of working in education for the protagonists of the tourism industry for those who have hotels, restaurants, spas, tourist transport, among others. the virtual classes are officially open to those who wish to obtain an accessible tourism diploma with the endorsement of UNED from home or from the company, ”explained Betina Anzilutti, director of Noun Eventos y Capacitación Executive de Argentina.
Finally, the support of the UNED completes the project cycle with the support of professors in the field of tourism to contribute to the revision and the extension of the contents of the program. “We will jointly develop and design content so that representatives of the tourism industry can manage the proposals and the tourism offer for all,” concluded Mildred Acuña Sossa, responsible for the Chair of Tourism Entrepreneurship at the School of social and human sciences of the UNED.
Registration is officially open and the first of the modules will start on September 13th.
